Carbon Steel.

Forged, cast and machined parts in carbon steel.

Carbon steel is strong, tough and economical – the material of choice for shafts, flanges, gears and highly stressed components in mechanical and plant engineering. We supply forgings and castings as well as CNC-machined parts from bar stock and from castings.

We work to common norms and standards such as DIN, DIN EN, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. If required, parts are produced to your drawing by our cooperation partners. On request we store your parts in Herzogenrath and deliver them by truck whenever you need them.

Properties

  • High strength and toughness
  • Can be quenched, tempered and hardened (e.g. C45)
  • Easy to weld (e.g. C22 and cast steel)
  • Economical – also in large series

Typical applications

  • Mechanical and plant engineering
  • Valves and pressure equipment (heat-resistant cast steel)
  • Drive technology: shafts, gears, hubs
  • Automotive and construction industry

Frequently asked questions.

What is C45 used for?

C45 is a carbon steel suitable for quenching and tempering, with good strength and machinability. It is widely used for shafts, pins, axles and gears.

Forging or casting – which is better?

Forged parts have a continuous grain flow and are particularly resilient. Castings allow more complex shapes. We are happy to work out with you which process is more economical for your part.

Is carbon steel stainless?

No. Carbon steel is not corrosion-resistant. For use in humid environments we agree a suitable surface protection with you or recommend stainless steel.
